Vorbis
To play OGG/Vorbis files, you will need to install the XiphQT. This is useful when you already have .ogg files.
PowerPC ONLY: In order to encode (rip) to Ogg/Vorbis, you will need to temporarily install the older QTComponents (direct link).
I am quite serious about it being temporary. See, the *new* one can read but not write, and the *old* one can write but not read. Great state of affairs no? If you install them both at the same time, you'll get the old one (so you can rip but not play).
Step by step:
- install both
- run kJams
- In your Preferences->Import, pick OggVorbis, and set your settings
- do all your ripping
- quit kJams
- move the file /Library/QuickTime/OggVorbis.component to somewhere else (you can save it for later when you want to do more ripping)
- run kJams
Now your ogg files will play! :D
Weird I know, maybe this will be rectified by either a new QuickTime or a new Xiph installer.
