Here's how you can get ffmpeg into your system now:

  1. download VCD & MPEG Tools (Make sure you get the one "for Mac OS X")
  2. mount the disk image (it should mount automatically, if not, double click the .dmg file)
  3. drag the application "VCD and MPEG Tools" to your "Applications" folder.

That's it! You're all set, you do not need to restart kJams. kJams will "just know" where to look for the application, and it will dig ffmpeg out of it and use it.
