In order for me to be able to look in on your computer, you'll need to login to my VPN, and you'll also need to enable "Apple Remote Desktop". If you want to iChat we'll need to cover that too.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

  1. Run the application "Internet Connect" Located at /Applications/Internet Connect, it looks like this:

  1. File->New VPN connection...
  2. Pick PPTP from the radio buttons
  3. server address: kjams.com
  4. account name: vpn
  5. for the password i'll be talking to you and i'll tell you then
  6. hit connect

You should be connected now to my VPN

At the end of the session: You should disconnect the VPN session from "Internet Connect", it will cause your machine to remotely disconnect my machine from it. I won't be able to see you anymore.

"Apple Remote Desktop"

Assumes you are either directly connected to the internet (not behind a router) or you are connected via VPN (see above)

  1. Apple Menu -> System Preferences
  2. click "Sharing"
  3. Check the box next to "Apple Remote Desktop"
  4. click the "Access Privileges…" button
  5. check the box next to "Guests may request premission to control the screen"
  6. click okay

If i tell you your client software is out of date, you'll have to update it by installing the new Remote Desktop client.

iChat

If you do not have a .Mac or AIM account, then you can use my iChat server. Assumes you are connected via VPN.

  1. run iChat
  2. new account (in the prefs, the little "+" button)
  3. ichat.png
