When you stop a song (or when you start another song while one is already playing), the playing song will fade out over a given duration. The default is 2 seconds. You can adjust the fade duration by going to the Menu bar and picking kJams->Preferences->Audio, and in there you'll see "Fade Out Duration".  To turn off the fade out, set the duration to zero.
