WARNING: does not work cross platform. Must pick one platform (mac or windows)
- start by updating kJams to the latest version
- If you have any music files that reside outside your ~/Music/kJams folder, you will have to move them to the corresponding place, they must have the same path name in their new location, as in the original location (including hard drive name / drive letter)
- If you have any music files on an external disk, you'll have to mount that disc at your destination (you can serve it remotely, see Serving Music Remotely) (Win: must have same drive letter)
- If your user name on the new computer is different from the old one, you'll have to create a symbolic link on the new computer, with the old name, pointing to the new name. See The Symbolic Link Trick to make a shortcut / alias, or ask for help.
- In the Finder, go to <startup hard drive>/Library/Application Support/kJams Plugins
- Drag that entire folder (the one called "kJams Plugins") to your other computer, same place
- In the Finder, go to your home folder ~/Music/kJams/
- Drag that entire folder (the one called "kJams") to your other computer, same place
- In the Finder, go to home your folder (the icon is a picture of a house, in the Go menu)
- In Lion or later, reveal the Library folder, since it's hidded (thanks apple!). To do so, hit command-shift-G, then type "Library", return
- go into ~/Library/Preferences/kJams. (if you don't know what ~ means, then click it for an explanation)
- Drag that entire folder (the one called "kJams") to your other computer, same place (you may have to reeal the Library folder there too)
- Drag the Application over too, double click!
You must manually keep the two synchronized. To do so, designate one as the master (where you make changes) and one as the slave (all changes to this one are overwritten by the master). Then just use a file sync tool to go from master to slave. Do NOT do a two-way sync, this will not work. On mac, you can use File Synchronization.
