kJams works with Karaoke Anywhere
You can rip your songs from your discs, then export them in a "Karaoke Anywhere" compatible format. Note it only works with Zipped MP3+G files, not with movies or other audio/video formats.
- if you have not already, install the LAME MP3 Encoder, then restart kJams
- go to preferences->Importing, set your "Audio Encoder" to "LAME" (preset: "Best")
- Check the "Zip files when ripping" and "Create Playlists of Imported Songs" preferences
- Go to the "Exporting" pref panel
- Set "Export name template" to "R-S-L"
- Go to the "Tags" pref panel
- Set "Conform Names" to "R-S-L", make sure it is checked, and make sure "Update media meta tags" is checked
- if you have not ripped your discs yet or bought your songs
- rip all your discs!
- buy the songs you want!
- make a playlist of all the songs you want to export to KA
- Select that playlist, go File->Export->Entire Playlist: All Files...
- in the dialog, Pick "Flat". If it tells you that you could overwrite files, pick "I Know"
- in the file dialog, go to the Desktop, pick "new folder", give it a name like "KA exports", press "Choose"
- delete that playlist (you no longer need it)
- go File->Add to library
- select that folder you just exported, click "Choose"
- when it asks "move or reference" hold the OPTION / ALT key and click "Reference" (you'll hear a beep)
- There will be a new playlist that has just re-imported your songs, select it
- Show the "Format" sort-column, then sort by it (Learn how to hide/show Sort Columns)
- if there are any songs that are not MP3 (eg: AAC)
- Select those songs
- Advanced->Convert Selection to: "LAME MP3: Best", and wait for the activities to complete
- Show the "File: Zip" sort column and sort by it, then hide the "Format" sort-column
- if there are any songs that do NOT have an entry under the "File: Zip" column (blank entry)
- select those songs
- Advanced->Convert Selection to: "LAME MP3: Best", and wait for the activities to complete
- any songs that still do not have an entry under the "File: Zip" column are not eligible to use with KA, you can remove them from the playlist. Let me know if you think something is wrong there (remember: no movies)
- Sort by "Song Name", then hide the "File: Zip" sort column
- Select all the songs
- Holding down the option (alt) key, pick "Advanced->Special->Push Meta Data to Selected Songs" (you can also right click). You will hear a "BEEP" indicating kJams saw the option key. If you do NOT hear the "BEEP", make SURE you're holding the option key and do it again. Doing this ensures that "special characters" in the file names get properly encoded in a way that KaraokeAnywhere can read (as UTF8).
- File->Export->Entire Playlist: All Files
- Pick "Flat", if it tells you that you could overwrite files, pick "I Know"
- Create a new folder on the desktop
- Export to that folder
- Go back to prefs->Tags
- Set "Conform Song Names" back to "L-T-R-S", click OK
- Quit kJams
- run iTunes
- select your iOS device
- click the "File Sharing" playlist on the left
- scroll down, select "Karaoke Anywhere" or "Karaoke Pro"
- in the Finder, in that folder you created, select all the songs
- Drag them into the "Karaoke Anywhere Documents" or "Karaoke Pro Documents" panel in iTunes
- Sync!
