Migrating from kJams 32bit to 64bit

Windows

  1. are you on Windows 11? if not, upgrade your windows. Does NOT work on windows 10!
  2. download the 64bit edition of the kJams that you use
  3. Install and run it
  4. if you see it running 32bit, then you ran the wrong version. Quit that and run the 64bit version
  5. are you all set? if not, get help!
  6. in the Windows Start menu, search for "add remove", click "Add or Remove Programs"
  7. search for "kJams"
  8. next to the kJams 32bit version, to the right, click the "three dots" menu, pick "uninstall"
  9. complete that and you're done!

macOS

  1. check Software Update to see if your mac can run macOS 13 or later. if it can NOT, and you need your kJams, then you can't upgrade yet. Get a new computer. Once you do, continue.
  2. run kJams 32bit one last time
  3. in the help menu, pick "deactivate computer". If this crashes, just ignore it and move on to the next step
  4. if it does not crash, this will free up your license from the 32bit version, provide your license file, and further instructions
  5. upgrade your OS from Mojave to an OS that is at least 2 revisions lower than the most up to date
    1. eg: as of the day of this writing, the latest macOS is 26. Before that was macOS 15, and before that was macOS 14.
    2. that means you SHOULD upgrade your mac to at least macOS 14 (or later, later is better)
    3. kJams MAY work on earlier versions, eg: macOS 13, but support may be limited
    4. if your mac won't update to a supported OS, you may need to get an updated mac. Ebay has'm for cheap
  6. if you're on a NEW computer (not the same as the one running 32bit)
    1. clone your kJams folder to the new computer
  7. now, download the 64bit edition of the kJams that you had, replace the old one if it asks
  8. if it did not crash when you deactivated above, follow the activation instructions
  9. if it DID crash when you attempted deactivate, just try to use your current serial number to activate kJams. If it fails, text me.
  10. trash the old 32bit version from your Applications folder, if you still have it
