if by "where i was supposed to" you mean "right inside the "kJams" folder, next to (But not in) the "kJams Music" folder", then yes, correct

if by that you mean "as a repository of all music files i come across on the internet or that i otherwise procure from somewhere outside of kJams" then yes, correct.

no, kjams never did this.  in the past kjams would only ever *reference* the files you told it about via "Add to Library" (which is the same as drag-and-drop).

"Reference" means the files are left right where they are, they are not moved, but merely *indexed* in place.  their meta-data appears in the kJams application, but the files themselves live right where you put them, they're not moved.

however, NOW, when you do "add to library" (or drag-and-drop), kjams will ask if you want to "reference" or "copy/move".  "reference" acts as before, but "copy/move" will do just that, either copy or move.  it will MOVE *if* the file is on the same hard drive as the "kJams Music" folder, and it will COPY *if* it is not.  either case, the file ends up inside the "kJams Music" folder.  which as you know lives inside the "kJams" folder.  seeing a trend here?

consolidate ALL music that is out in "one or more places", put them all inside "TunesDude"

then [[Rebuild|rebuild]].  kjams will auto-find everything inside the "kJams Music" folder, then drag" TunesDude" onto kjams and it will index that too.  then you're done.

well, certainly put your extraneous files into a folder, yes, and put that into the "kJams" folder, but you should not manually place anything inside the "kJams Music" folder. i realize that's confusing, here's an explanation

> How many folders should be in 'kJams' folder? and what goes where?
the ones that are there automatically plus one more that YOU put there (for your own files that you already had)

> Long time ago I created a folder named 'My Karaoke' where I was supposed to
if by "where i was supposed to" you mean "right inside the "kJams" folder, next to (But not in) the "kJams Music" folder", then yes, correct

> [to] save my music files to
if by that you mean "as a repository of all music files i come across on the internet or that i otherwise procure from somewhere outside of kJams" then yes, correct.

> Then I was supposed to drag those files onto the kJams icon/application
if by that you mean that when you get any bunch of NEW files, that you place all the NEW files into a folder FOO, then place folder FOO into folder "My Karaoke", then you drag folder FOO from "My Karaoke" onto the kJams icon, then yes, correct

> and it would save them somewhere else
no, kjams never did this. in the past kjams would only ever *reference* the files you told it about via "Add to Library" (which is the same as drag-and-drop).

"Reference" means the files are left right where they are, they are not copied, but merely *indexed* in place. their meta-data appears in the kJams application, but the files themselves live right where you put them, they're not copied.

however, NOW, when you do "add to library" (or drag-and-drop), kjams will ask if you want to "reference" or "copy". "reference" acts as before, but "copy" will do just that, copy the files from where they are, the file copy ends up inside the "kJams Music" folder. which as you know lives inside the "kJams" folder. seeing a trend here?

> I have music files in the "kJams/My Karaoke" folder
leave that alone

> also in my Playlist folder
that is a grievous error, i do not even know how that's possible. move ALL that music out, into a new folder, then put said new folder into the "My Karaoke" folder

> and maybe one or more places
consolidate ALL music that is out in "one or more places", put them all inside "My Karaoke"

then rebuild. kjams will auto-find everything inside the "kJams Music" folder, then drag "My Karaoke" onto kjams, and when it asks, pick REFERENCE (NOT copy) and it will index that too. then you're done.
