For some, the screen comes up too late and stays too long, cutting into the next song. You can help this a lot by making sure Edit → Preferences → General → Skip Silence at Start of Song is turned OFF. The first preference shows the time in seconds (counting back from the end of the song) when the Show Screen is displayed. To display the screen sooner, increase the number of seconds. For example, change the 3 to a 4.

The second preference shows the duration of the Show Screen, or the time in seconds that it will remain up. To shorten the display time, pick a lower number. For example, change the 10 to an 8.

Note that the time changes are cumulative. In the above example, the time before the next song starts is now increased by 3 seconds. You pick up 1 second by displaying the Show Screen sooner, and another 2 more seconds by displaying the screen for a shorter duration.
